5 WWE Women's Feuds That Ruled (And 5 That Sucked)
2. Chyna Vs. Ivory
I was torn as to whether I should include this fued or not, as the cynic in me found it hard to look beyond backstage politics and some, perhaps, under-par performances from one of the women. However, in light of Chyna's recent passing and in remembering how much this angle affected me as a young and impresssionable kid, I think that it more than deserves to be highlighted.
The Ninth Wonder of the World raised the ire of the Right to Censor faction in October 2000 when she posed nude for Playboy. The censorious white-shirt wearing do-gooders couldn't have that, oh no, and started to attack Chyna and her good friend Billy Gunn.
This went on for a month or two before she was blasted with a Venis piledriver and (kayfabe) injured her neck. Despite the attack Chyna sucked it up and went into battle with Ivory at the 2001 Royal Rumble. It was a mistake: during the match, Chyna went for a handspring back elbow whiplashed her back and neck while completing the move and collapsed.
The former DXer needed to be taken out of the arena on a stretcher as JR did his 'Owen Hart voice' in an effort to worry the audience. It wasn't the most subtle way of igniting a feud, but it was more compelling than what the women were usually offered.
Chyna was on the bench for the next two months as Venis, Ivory and the other members of the RTC mocked her and her condition. Chyna eventually returned to in-ring competition at WrestleMania X-Seven and won the Women's Title after destroying her enemy.
A good, competitive match between the two would have been nice but, considering how much Ivory had dogged Chyna in the storyline, it was a fitting end to their tale.
