5 WWE Wrestlers Who SHOULD Have Dethroned Roman Reigns (And 5 Who Still Could)

1. Cody Rhodes

All of this brings us to the most likely person to take the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship off Roman Reigns, the same man who was the most likely candidate before WrestleMania 39: Cody Rhodes.

Despite the hue and cry from many fans and critics (including this writer), Rhodes is still the best-poised wrestler to ultimately defeat Reigns and capture the world title(s). Being shunted into a side feud with Brock Lesnar is not a step down for him. If anything, it’s a tale of redemption and a quest to return to the summit to challenge Roman again.

The argument many have raised is that the time might have been perfect, with all the stars aligning at the biggest show of the year with more eyes on the product than any time in aeons. There are plenty of risks involved with punting until SummerSlam or even next WrestleMania, but that still doesn’t change the facts here: Cody is still the top babyface in WWE and the biggest threat to Reigns’ championship.

Whether he’s as hot or hotter than he was at Mania if and when he gets another shot is still an open question, but the American Nightmare has to be the odds-on favorite to any betting person right now.
