5 WWE Wrestlers Who SHOULD Have Dethroned Roman Reigns (And 5 Who Still Could)

3. Drew McIntyre

Now we start getting into the sentimental title switches.

As much as WWE wanted to make it seem like Clash at the Castle was taking place in Drew McIntyre’s backyard, Wales and Scotland are separated by 640 kilometers. It would be like holding a PLE in Philadelphia and touting it as being near Sami Zayn’s hometown of Montreal.

Still, the first WWE PPV/PLE in the United Kingdom in 30 years was a huge deal, and McIntyre was a gigantic sentimental favorite, carrying the weight of multiple nations into the title match. With WWE pumping Clash up as if it was a WrestleMania-sized event, you just felt like this had to be Drew’s moment – especially when you factor in how unfortunate it was that the Scottish Warrior’s entire title run took place during the empty arena era. This would have been a makeup and a “thank you” to him.

Instead, it was “LOL Bloodline interferes, Roman retains” once again, this time with a debuting Solo Sikoa saving the day. But imagine the reaction if McIntyre had managed to defeat Reigns for the title and celebrated all over the UK with the title. You could have had him drop the strap weeks later on TV or the next PLE and the Bloodline wheel would have kept turning.

We also would have been spared the godawful moment of McIntyre doing karaoke with Tyson Fury to close out the event.
