50 Best WCW Moments Ever
34. Shane McMahon Steals Vince’s Thunder
This is the only moment post-WWF acquisition that sneaks onto the list, and there's a simple reason for that. Most of the output Vince McMahon subjected WCW loyalists to after March 2001 was bogus. By November, he'd lost interest in the brand and squashed it at Survivor Series. So much for showing folks in Atlanta how to run the business successfully, eh?
Back onto the positive side we go.
The 26 March '01 Nitro was a simulcast episode with Raw. Both shows ran their own stuff, but TNT and TNN (Raw temporarily moved from USA Network during this period) beamed the same content here or there. In one segment, Shane McMahon stunned his dad by announcing that he now owned World Championship Wrestling.
Shane's, “The name on the contract does say McMahon…” promo was killer. Everything that came next, from Lance Storm and Hugh Morrus invading during midcard bouts to the invasion storyline overall, sucked, but that first night was pure McMahon magic. People were legit excited to see Shane-O call the shots, even if it was clear this was part of the over-arching family drama.
