50 Best WCW Moments Ever
32. Bret Hart’s Armoured Jersey
You could count genuinely great Bret Hart in WCW moments on one hand, which is a sad commentary on his run in the company between 1997-2000 overall. Bret's heart (no pun intended) just wasn't in it after the infamous events of Montreal at Survivor Series '97, and WCW didn't have much house room for him anyway due to all of the other moving parts.
Ironically given his serious distaste for the man, Hart's finest hour came opposite Bill Goldberg on the 29 March 1999 Nitro. Bret came to the ring ranting and raving about Bill, then goaded the musclehead into spearing him. After selling the move, Hart got up over a motionless Goldberg, pulled off his hockey jersey and showed a steel chest plate.
What a heel tactic.
Bill had run head first into the armoured core. In other words, he'd fallen straight into Bret's trap. Sadly, it'd be a while before there was any payoff to this, and their Starrcade '99 match all but ended Hart's career, but a top angle is a top angle. Someone needs to run this back in WWE or AEW today.
