50 Best WCW Moments Ever
27. Rodzilla Is Here!
It's understood that the WWF met with Dennis Rodman's representatives in 1996 to try and get something going for WrestleMania XII. Those plans fell through, but Vince McMahon probably hoped he'd be able to convince the NBA bad boy eventually. Nope. Rodman, mainly due to his friendship with Hulk Hogan, fancied doing some wrestling for WCW instead.
That showed the sea change in North American wrestling. WWF wasn't the hotbed anymore - WCW was, and the nWo was a major reason why. Rodman showed up on the 10 March 1997 edition of Nitro, then joined the New World Order at Uncensored six days later. 'Rodzilla' would go on to work some matches for the company over the following few years, and they pulled monster business.
Simply having him around was a whole moment.
Eric Bischoff understood the challenges of keeping someone as erm...unpredictable as Rodman happy, but there was a bigger upside if WCW could. In other words, they were going to make oodles of cash, which they definitely did. Rodman's impact on the cool points nWo garnered shouldn't be downplayed. People really liked the thought of him being '4 Life'.
