50 Best WCW Moments Ever
26. Kevin Nash ‘Lawn Darts’ Rey
The wrestling audience at large also liked carnage, and the nWo brought plenty of that during their earliest weeks as a group. Segments aired that people weren't used to yet; the nWo "villains" ambushed workers behind the scenes, and took the action away from the ring/ringside area frequently. At one point, they even used Nitro's backlot.
EA were paying attention. Yeah, thanks for creating Backstage Assault, guys!
On the 29 July 1996 flagship, Kevin Nash treated Rey Mysterio like a lawn dart and hurled him head first into one of the production cabins outside. It was mayhem (another video game reference if you're keeping score at home), but gave Nitro an edge Raw was lacking over on the other channel. "Anything can happen in the WWF"? That "anything" paled in comparison to what lunacy folks could see on TNT.
It's just as well Mysterio went on to have the career he did, because nobody would want to be known exclusively as that dude who was yeeted into the side of a temp building. What a moment though. This is something Nash still brings up on his podcasts.
