50 Best WCW Moments Ever
25. Booker T Capitalises On Backstage Drama
Plunder the WCW archives throughout 1998 and one thing will become clear: Booker T was a main event success story waiting to happen. He was scary over as a midcarder vying for the then-credible TV Title, and Book often had some of the best matches on shows. Plus, and this was real important during that era, he had the physical size to get a headline push.
It'd take backstage politics and a lot of bad blood between Hulk Hogan and Vince Russo to make Booker's dreams come true though. Bash At The Beach 2000 went down in history for a shoot promo Russo cut on Hulk. That changed the 'worked shoot' schemes they had, legitimately ticked Hogan off, and caused WCW to crown Booker as the new World Champ.
Hulk wouldn't return before the promotion's demise.
Booker T's fans didn't care about that. They were far too busy enjoying the fruits of their man's labours since breaking out from the Harlem Heat team to become a singles success. Book's win over Jeff Jarrett helped set up bigger things to come for Booker in the WWF/WWE, and it's heartwarming to revisit.
