50 Best WCW Moments Ever
48. Dean Malenko Unmasks
It'd be easy to imagine that WCW's top 50 moments were all nWo/Sting/Goldberg/Ric Flair related, but no. The Cruiserweight division was rather vital to the promotion's output, which is something Bischoff has made sure to note on episodes of his '83 Weeks' podcast in years since. The Bisch knew how much value world class flyers and technicians added to his product on the undercard.
One of WCW's best angles ever happened at Slamboree 1998. There, Dean Malenko went under the mask as Ciclope. The winner was guaranteed a Cruiser Title shot vs. Chris Jericho, and the future 'Y2J' wanted to wrestle literally anybody but Deano. Jericho's horrified face when Malenko unmasked to reveal his master plan was art.
He was flabbergasted. His gast had been well and truly flabbered.
Things got even better when Dean toppled Jericho in a follow up match to win the belt. Fans in Worcester were on the edge of their seats for this storytelling, and nobody could wait to see Malenko put the loudmouth heel in his place. This might be the best Cruiserweight storyline of all time, to be honest.
