Jericho's response was special though.

He went on a campaign claiming to be a conspiracy victim. In typical creative fashion, the heel decided to go even further by visiting Washington for a series of fun-filled vignettes. The jilted ex-Cruiserweight Champ spoke to passers by (who often had no clue what he was banging on about) and generally had a blast hamming it up.

According to Jericho, pretty much all of this was his own doing. WCW let him take the wheel and dive headfirst into a story of deceit and conspiracy about the trick Malenko had pulled at Slamboree. All of the footage shown on the 1 June 1998 episode of Nitro is well worth your time if you like this kind of character work; Jericho was on top of his game.

This kind of dedication to character development would help him massively when he leapt over to the WWF in 1999, but it was largely under-appreciated on WCW's side. Being fair, at least they gave Jericho a generous amount of TV time on the flagship to tell his story and moan about Dean's Ciclope move.
