50 Best WCW Moments Ever
21. Hulk Hogan’s First PPV
Hulk Hogan's grip on the WWF Title had faded following a brief renaissance in 1993, and the red and yellow marketing juggernaut was interested in carving out a slice of Hollywood for himself away from the biz anyway. Even so, Hulk would be itching for a wrestling return eventually, and that's when WCW came calling in 1994.
They were willing to throw mountains of money at Hogan to snag him, so Hulkamania came to Disney. Eric Bischoff had the ideal match waiting for Hulk come Bash At The Beach 1994 too. He'd go one on one with Ric Flair - this was a match the WWF had passed on back at WrestleMania VIII in 1992. WCW wouldn't follow suit.
BATB '94 was huge for World Championship Wrestling.
The show pulled more pay-per-view buys than the promotion had ever been able to boast about before, and the match between Flair and Hogan was critically lauded as a centrepiece on the card. They kept things fairly simple by giving everyone a Hulk-heavy bout they expected, but it was obvious to everyone watching that WCW would be heading in a new direction away from traditional NWA tropes of yesteryear.
