50 Best WCW Moments Ever
19. Paid For By The New World Order
You know Neal Pruitt's voice without even really knowing what the man looks like. He was the chap tasked with providing voiceovers for those early nWo promos. You knows the ones. "The following announcement has been paid for by the New World Order". Pruitt's hushed, almost reserved tones dripped the faction in even more cool.
WCW introduced this new monochrome vignette style starting with the 29 July 1996 Nitro. That was when the very first black and white nWo promo aired. It's fun to look back on, if only because Hulk Hogan hadn't fully leaned into his Hollywood heel style quite yet. The Hulkster was still promo'ing like this was 1987, brother.
Kevin Nash and Scott Hall would change that for the better going forwards, and Hogan followed their lead. The nWo's vignettes were totally unlike anything fans could see elsewhere on Nitro, Raw or in wrestling generally. They offered something different, and let producers like Neal Pruitt experiment with fresh techniques that pushed WCW away from a cartoony atmosphere.
The monochrome look and disclaimer inserts also differentiated nWo from WCW immediately.
