Payoff was the buzzword heading into Great American Bash 1990 too.

Sting's knee injury was well-documented before the pay-per-view, and WCW's announcers did a stellar job of teasing that the face-painted babyface wouldn't be able to beat someone the level of Ric Flair on one leg. Jim Ross, in particular, was on fire this night - it was absolutely one of the iconic commentator's best performances.

Ross laid down the soundtrack for one hell of a match too. Sting's leg did become a crucial part of the pair's psychological approach, and they took their time with it. Then, just as Flair looked to have things well in hand, a face comeback for the ages occurred and the Stinger won that coveted World Title; JR's cry of, "Yes!" added so much weight to the moment with just one solitary word.

A lot of people dunk on early-90s WCW or call GAB that year a one-match card. Fair enough, but what a match to pin down the show with. Sting returning to grab opportunity with both hands and send Baltimore into raptures is classic and very-much timeless NWA/WCW fare.

Watch this to see an emotional pop like few others.
