50 Best WCW Moments Ever
11. Sting Rappels For The First Time
Shawn Michaels taking a zip line to the ring at WrestleMania XII was showy and got everybody's attention, but that was a one off. In 1997, Sting turned stunts like that into a regular gig. He first rappelled down to ringside on the 20 January 1997 Nitro. Even better, the Stinger had a fresh coat of paint due to his new 'Crow' gimmick.
Eric Draven in 1994's movie said it "can't rain all the time". Sorry, Eric, but it could rain money for WCW once they started casting Sting as someone capable of fighting back against the nWo's antics in '97. Seeing him appear as a darker version of himself and rappel down from the rafters like Batman come to life was unbelievable for the era.
Even Vince McMahon would've had to yell, "What a manoeuvre!" when he saw it.
Fans started looking up towards the ceiling after 20 January 1997. Nobody knew for sure when the Stinger would strike, and that added a sense of excitement and danger to episodes of Nitro. The nWo had met their match on paper, but WCW would make everyone wait for the payoff.
