50 MMA Fights You Must Watch Before You Die
5. Donald Cerrone Vs. Benson Henderson 1 - WEC 43
While these two lightweight greats are mostly known for having entertaining scraps inside of the Octagon, some of their early success and best fights actually took place in the WEC. In 2010, both fighters were rising stars in the promotion's 155lb division. So when then champion, Jamie Varner, wasn't available to defend his belt, it was a no-brainer for them to battle each other for the interim lightweight title.
Henderson and Cerrone had built up a reputation for high octane fights, but nothing could prepare those watching for the five round, back and forth scrap that these two had. Although Cerrone struggled to stop Henderson's wrestling, he did manage to threaten with a plethora of slick submission attempts to keep Henderson on his toes.
There were several moments during the fight where it looked like Cerrone was going to, finish the fight and score an upset victory. However, Henderson would always escape in the nick of time to carry on his own assault. It felt like both men had the perfect counter for their opponent's attack, which helped it become one of the most captivating bouts the promotion ever produced.
