50 MMA Fights You Must Watch Before You Die

1. Jon Jones Vs. Alexander Gustafsson 1 - UFC 165

Ever since he ripped the UFC light heavyweight title away from Shogun Rua back at UFC 128, Jon Jones has made every other great fighter at 205lb look mediocre. Daniel Cormier, Rashad Evans, Lyoto Machida. The list of his victims has slowly but surely stacked up.

However, his reign hasn't always gone completely unchallenged. At UFC 165, Jones took on fellow young, light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson for the belt. Despite him being on a six-fight win streak, many thought the giant Swede would be a walk in the park. It turned out to not be that easy.

Gustafsson took the fight to Jon Jones, busting him up with heavy strikes, taking him down and, most importantly, making Jones look more human than he's ever been in his entire career. Going into the fifth round, both fighters knew that they were on the cusp of the victory and this brought out the best in them.

Fans focus on Gustafsson's accomplishments more in this fight because they were unexpected. However, just as much praise should be given to Jones, who showed that he could go through adversity and still manage to get the victory.
