It had been eight years since the last time the Rock had competed at WrestleMania before he walked the aisle in his hometown of Miami in 2012.

WrestleMania 28’s main event was set in motion a full year earlier, with Rock assaulting John Cena during his world title match against the Miz. That sparked a feud that pitted two of the top stars of their eras against each other, a type of matchup you don’t get to see very often.

Conventional wisdom said that Cena would win the match in a “passing the torch” moment, but Rock dropped a cocky Cena and sent every male over the age of 10 home happy with a solid match that provided a pretty good WrestleMania moment for the millions.
