Pros:

1. Solid worker

2. Had an interesting gimmick

3. Easy to hate

Cons:

1. Didn’t scream ‘main-eventer’

2. Didn’t have any truly awesome matches

Carlito was an entertaining character from the moment he debuted. He had an interesting gimmick that made him an ideal mid-card heel, and thanks to his family background, he had a strong background in wrestling to begin with. It shouldn't be a surprise, then, that he won the U.S. Championship on his first night on SmackDown, and the Intercontinental Championship on his first night on RAW.

The strange thing is, WWE seemed to have a lot of faith in him during the first few years of his WWE career. However, by the time 2007 rolled around, things were vastly different. Someone backstage must've thought that Carlito wasn't giving 100% to his WWE career, and so he started losing key spots on PPVs and in booking.

When Ric Flair called him out on RAW for 'not having any heart', most likely that was WWE management using Flair as a mouthpiece to light a fire under Carlito's ass.

Instead, Carlito began expressing his frustration with WWE and its backstage politics publicly, bringing more negative publicity for the company. Maybe if he had kept his opinions personal instead, he wouldn't have suffered from backstage politics in the first place.
