FAIR WARNING: Bryan Danielson enthusiasts will sharpen their knives reading this!

It defo did blow that a world class worker like Daniel Bryan only got 18 seconds to show his wares at WrestleMania XXVIII when Michael bloody Cole had received 14 full minutes the previous year. There's no denying that. It's also true that he and Sheamus could've had a banger of a match to kick off the night. However, not everything about the 18 second squash was useless.

Wrestling fans have literally hundreds of amazing Bryan matches to check out. This, despite the obvious downside of it happening at 'Mania, was more about character development. Being squashed by Sheamus after receiving a good luck kiss from AJ Lee pushed Daniel further towards the demented, sometimes-comedic heel that resulted in an insanely brilliant 'Team Hell No' duo with Kane.

That endeared him to the audience further, and showed everyone behind the scenes that Bryan was more than a technical master. He had bags of personality too. It was confirmed. Sure, those who'd watched him in ROH already knew that, but now WWE knew it too. Finding that out was perhaps worth the annoyance of Dan only getting 18 seconds on a card that featured a 10-minute Kane vs. Randy Orton snoozer.

Time has been kind to the whole 18 second debacle, if only because things panned out well for Daniel afterwards. He didn't slip down the card into obscurity. Instead, he used the embarrassment as fuel to give WWE what they wanted (character) whilst still pleasing himself and his fanbase with killer matches.
