24. Bron Breakker Gets Eaten

Joe Gacy played a spooky character down in NXT for a while. What is wrestling’s obsession with this rubbish? It never gets over. Everybody who takes on this sort of gimmick either drops it or is dropped from television.

Joe Gacy has experienced each of these fates!

Nobody who is given the gimmick has the presence to pull it off, and more to the point, why bother? Why bother breaking the internal logic of your fictional world if there’s a high probability that you’ll become a laughing stock?

Joe Gacy - who was assisted throughout early 2022 by druids - feuded with Bron Breakker. In a bid to crack Bron’s psyche, Gacy kidnapped his father Rick Steiner and, in a wretched angle, had his druids eat Bron. That is not a joke; after Breakker was thrown off the stage and through a conveniently-placed table, the druids swarmed Bron in a scene deliberately designed to evoke a zombie horror movie.

This wasn’t filmed during the pandemic, nor was it part of the accepted quasi-canon that is NXT during the Halloween season. This was something Shawn Michaels did because he, again, is not good. Michael Hackenbottom, more like.

Shawn Michaels is no George A. Romero - although ‘Land of the Dead’ accurately describes the NXT men’s roster.
