We've been here before, right? Rusev establishes dominant run as WWE United States Champion, vanquishing a number of midcard chaff before raising the ire of a company golden boy. After a couple of matches the Bulgarian Brute drops the title to said golden boy, and the drawing board is revisited once more.

This time you can replace 'John Cena' with 'Roman Reigns', but the story is much the same. Rusev dropped the US Championship to Reigns this past Sunday at Clash of Champions, and although the feud between the two seems likely to continue, only the most optimistic supporter of the former two-time champ sees it ending with that 'two' being replaced with a 'three'.

So what now for the former Alexander? Rusev is coming up to three years on the main roster and has been somewhat stuck in a cycle of 'lambast the US - win US Championship - lambast US - win US Championship' ever since.

The man from Plovdiv plainly has all the talent in the world and is already an integral part of the upper reaches of the WWE card. But where does he go from here? Here are six possible new directions for Rusev following WWE Clash of Champions.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
