6 New WWE Directions After Battleground 2017

1. John Cena Gunning For The WWE Title

Since returning on Independence Day, John Cena has been cast as a proud American rife with patriotism. Beating Bulgaria's own Rusev at Battleground, it's expected that Cena will now move on to face Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam and put the Indian menace in his place. This is 2017, right?

WWE apparently believe 'Us vs. Them' storylines still have a place in a world which has long since moved past them. Peel away the xenophobic approach though and it becomes clear that Cena is simply gunning for Mahal's WWE Title. A 17th World Title reign that'll shatter Ric Flair's 16-time record may be about to happen.

Cena challenging Jinder adds up. Why else would he beat a foreign heel like Rusev in a nationalistic Flag Match if Cena wasn't going to set his sights on a wealthy Indian who spouts bile about his beloved Uncle Sam? Cena vs. Mahal is almost a certainty for SummerSlam at this point, especially now that Randy Orton is out of the picture.
