6 Positives And 4 Negatives Heading Into WWE Survivor Series 2016
9. Negative — Infighting Between The Teams
There’s nothing wrong with a bit of uneasiness within the ranks heading into Survivor Series. In fact, it’s something we see just about every year, and for the most part it only adds to the excitement.
But this year we saw more than just the occasional squabble or one or two members refusing to get along. This time, the bickering was essentially encouraged by the management teams of each brand, turning this into some sort of weird, institutionalised infighting.
Usually the pre-match story sees one of the team captains looking to get their comrades to co-operate, or at least tolerate each other for long enough to get through a match. This time though, we saw Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon forcing the members of their Raw team to tear each other apart just weeks before the show.
First we saw the Team Raw quintet face off in Fatal 5-Way action, and though admittedly the following week was slightly better, we still saw Team Raw guys facing other Team Raw guys right through the show.
In fairness, I suppose it’s a tricky situation because they have to fill a three-hour show somehow, and their roster’s much smaller than it used to be. Still, this kind of booking just felt like a fairly stupid way to prepare a team for Survivor Series.
