6 Recent Times WWE Taught Us That Friendship Means Nothing
2. Bray Wyatt & Randy Orton
This marks Bray's second appearance on this list, and when you factor in Daniel Bryan's infiltration of his camp several years ago this paints the picture of a very ineffective leader. Wyatt may have been the only person that expected his alliance with Randy Orton to be a genuine partnership rather than an act of subterfuge, and thus Bray pushed forward with his embrace of 'The Apex Predator'.
As the story progressed, it began to look more and more like this thing might actually be for real. Orton had passed up several opportunities for "the big swerve", yet it never came. When it did, it took place in the most impactful of ways.
Most guys turn on their friends and partners with a simple attack, maybe toss them through some furniture or a screen, but Orton took things too damn far.
Who can ever forget the beginning of the climactic segment, when Bray exclaimed "Randy!" with a genuine grin plastered across his face upon seeing his friend pop up on the Titantron. As the realization of what was happening set in, 'The Eater of Worlds' became unhinged.
Randy Orton didn't just stab Bray Wyatt in the back, he violated him in an uncomfortably personal way. It's one thing to cheap shot someone from behind or refuse a desperate tag in a match. It's another thing entirely when you burn their house to the ground and then desecrate the burial site of your "friend's" sister.
For a man so closed off to normal human emotion, seeing Bray cry out in anguish at his ally's treachery was rough. Say what you want about Wyatt; whether you find him to be an evil cult leader or an alluring anti-hero who bucks the establishment, this was a hard segment to watch. If you ended this episode of SmackDown feeling no sympathy for Bray you may need to spend some time lying on a professional's couch.
