6 Similarities Between NXT Of Today And The TNA Of Yesterday

3. The Importance Of Women's Wrestling

When TNA introduced the Knockout's Championship in 2007, it was making something of a statement. For years in WWE the women had been treated as objectified asides, objects to be looked at and drooled over or as pawns in the competitive scuffling of the men.

TNA was going to take a different approach, showcasing women's wrestling loud and proud and appreciating these athletes for their being just that, athletes.

Gail Kim was the first champion, and her matches with Awesome Kong (WWE's Kharma) from this era are still spoken about today. When you add to those two the Beautiful People, ODB, Roxxi, Daffney and others, you found yourself with quite the division on your hands.

It is this similar approach to women's wrestling that helped NXT gather such momentum, and as a result led to a wholesale change in the way the WWE presents its female competitors.

NXT is credited with starting the Divas Revolution, an accolade that TNA tried to grab years ago.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
