One the of things Lucha Underground does in order to help establish their young stars is pair them with popular veterans.

The best example of this is Rey Mysterio serving as a mentor to Dragon Azteca Jr. Being associated with a legend like Mysterio gives Azteca’s character instant creditability and establishes him as a fan favorite. The promotion also did this effectively when they used Konnan to introduce Prince Puma to the Lucha Underground fan base.

It’s baffling as to why WWE never utilizes this concept.

There are certainly some new wrestlers (Finn Bálor) or floundering midcard acts (Eric Rowan) who could have benefited by being mentored (onscreen) by The Undertaker prior to his departure.

Imagine how much a current star could benefit from having a Steve Austin in the corner or even just get some footage of Austin working with the wrestler at his ranch.

This is a simple concept that could help establish some new stars in WWE.
