6 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Late Night Dynamite (Sep 22)
1. Sky Fliers
So, Scoprio Sky vs. Ben Carter.
It f*cking ruled.
Built around the simple story of the young newcomer pushing the veteran to his limit until his heart ran out and the victor's savvy took over, this was brisk, exciting, and super crisp. There's a snap and a pop to Carter's work that gives the impression he has been wrestling far beyond his actual experience level. Paired with Sky's trademark smoothness, it made for a can't-fail combination that pulsed with energy as the fighters struggled to break parity and take control.
Having forced Sky to rethink his gameplan on several occasions, Carter eventually came to life with explosions of offense, scoring a great near-fall from a Frog Splash. That Scorpio picked up a cut beside his eye helped the bout feel more intense, physical, and attritional, and while Ben's fight left the SCU man in disbelief after he kicked out of a Fisherman's Buster, he eventually scored the TKO for the win.
Without a drop of hyperbole, this was one of the year's best Dynamite matches. Miss it at your peril.
