6 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Rampage (May 19)

1. Unsanctioned Is Incoming

Chris Jericho Adam Cole
AEW

Going in, it's unlikely that anybody expected to see no less than two matches confirmed for Double Or Nothing on Rampage. AEW don't have a lot of time to round out the card though, so they had to act fast and use Friday as a means to push some more attractions onto the show.

Chris Jericho vs. Adam Cole in an "Unsanctioned" match joined Jade Cargill vs. Taya Valkyrie on the lineup. Jericho, who was still reeling from his loss to Roderick Strong on Dynamite, warned Cole during an insert at the commentary desk. Then, it was revealed that Adam was outside. Then, Jericho ripped up his no contact agreement.

That brought Cole into the arena for a spirited brawl that did pop the live crowd. This was as close to something from Dynamite as you're likely to get on Rampage, and the episode was much better for it. Being brutally honest, the pull-apart hockey fight might've been one of the biggest things to happen on Rampage in 2023.

If only the weekly had received this kind of attention more often, eh?
