6 Ups & 10 Downs From WWE Raw (6 Jan - Results & Review)

Ups…

6. The Perfect Venue

In booking Raw’s debut on Netflix, WWE hit a home run by locating it in the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, a new arena that opened last summer.

Surely, WWE wanted this new era to have a forward-looking, futuristic vibe to separate it from 32 years of Raw airing on cable television. Rather than drastically changing WWE’s aesthetics – though there were some differences from recent appearances – the company leaned on the Intuit Dome’s in-seat LED lights, which lit up red throughout the night and produced a memorable visual. The arena’s giant halo boards above the ring also provided a fantastic addition.

For WWE’s part, their minimized entrance had a new LED tunnel that looked pretty cool, and they finally invested in a new announce desk that didn’t look like it would fall apart if Michael Cole sneezed. The ring apron being littered with sponsors’ logos was a bit jarring, but that feeling will fade after a few weeks.

Overall, a great choice of venue for the debut show. It will be interesting to see if next week’s Raw returns to the same setup from the past year, or if they change things up for the Netflix era.
