6 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's NXT (26 Feb)

2. Water Into Whine

Gibson Drake
NXT

I've always known that Zack Gibson could do incredible things with a microphone in his hand. I've seen him personally cut some of the greatest, most original, hilarious promos ever seen inside a wrestling ring. But not even me, a man who believes his talents are limitless, thought he could do this... he made an entire crowd actually *care* about The Forgotten Sons.

By just going down the incredibly formulaic "America is bad, actually" route he whipped Full Sail into a frenzy of "Actually Buddy, USA IS A-OK". Production smartly throwing Ryker, Cutler and, Blake out there to immediately try and soak up some of the patriotism, creating the illusion that they haven't been NXT's most consistent, pointless act since the move to the USA Network.

A win here, and the entire last 6 months would have felt erased on the crest of this shock win and crowd support but, inevitably, they lost. Despite having an extra man and literally being American, somehow the Grizzled Young Veterans emerged victorious. It's great to finally have the makings of a tag division again, but that does mean one team needs to be at the bottom of it.
