6 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (15 Aug - Results & Review)

Sami Zayn officially joins SmackDown and Drew McIntyre = WWE's "real nightmare".

There was a tension-based plot thread purring in the background on this week's SmackDown. WWE booked Jacob Fatu to be doubtful that teaming up with Sami Zayn was a good idea for him, but they were firm friends by the end of the episode. Jimmy Uso played mediator. Obviously, none of this was as fully fleshed out as say...Jey Uso casting a suspicious eye at Sami years ago, but it still worked out.

Speaking of working out (double meaning alert!), it's Drew McIntyre. The burly Scot scorched his peers recently by suggesting some of them need to hit the gym more often, but that wasn't the only "working out" bit here. On Friday's show, Drew delivered the promo Triple H would've wanted, and he did it without a soul within spitting distance to bounce off of on the mic.

McIntyre will surely challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Title at Clash In Paris on 31 August. That'd be one hell of a ticket seller even if it was just an exhibition, but there's more story here than some might think. To his credit, Drew laid all of that out with sniper-like precision on SmackDown.

There were only a few negatives to scuff the blue brand's exterior. Even R-Truth, who was one of last week's biggest wobbles, showed that he isn't finished quite yet. Several competitive matches, including 2 zippy tag-team bouts, kept things moving inside the ring too.

Here's all the good and bad from an episode that really could've suffered from a lack of star power, but didn't.
