6 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (18 Oct - Results & Review)

1. Even Cody Can’t Make This Work

Time to hammer home that point.

Sorry to harp on it, but the Crown Jewel Championship stuff Triple H announced at Bad Blood isn't interesting. Cody Rhodes tried his able best to put it over as on the level of seeing Bruno Sammartino vs. Harley Race in the WWWF vs. NWA days, or Steve Austin vs. Goldberg during the 'Monday Night Wars', but that's a laughable pitch.

Cody vs. GUNTHER will be a fine match, but it's clear the prize they're fighting for will mean nothing once WWE returns to the United States. Nothing. Speaking of which, there's nothing GUNTHER can say during next week's face to face that will change that. It is what it is. This is as meh and humdrum as a battle between two World Champs could be.

Fans in South Carolina were buzzed to see Cody on SmackDown, but everyone's excitement evaporated out the fire exits once he started comparing the Saudi belt to matches like Austin vs. Goldberg. Obviously, no-one in the wider fanbase is buying that crap.

Sorry, champ.
