6 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (21 Mar - Results & Review)
2. WWE Has Turned A Corner With The Women's Title

This just in: Any worries that WWE would try to go the babyface route with Charlotte Flair after her Royal Rumble win in early-February have been iced. She’s settling back into a heel groove like this is 2016 on Raw all over again, and it’s working. Flair's elitist mindset and repeated attempts to talk over Tiffany Stratton during a backstage side by side screen sit-down were met with Tiffy reminding her who holds the gold and who Flair needs to beat at ‘Mania to remain relevant.
Yeah, this is starting to heat up nicely, and the frosty discussion followed on neatly from a few of Stratton's big dive spots on last week's episode of SmackDown. Of course, it would still be a colossal disappointment if Charlotte ended April’s weekender with gold around her waist again, but that remains to be seen. For now, all anyone can do is judge the build, and WWE has turned a corner with it. More of this content would be welcome, please.
WWE has cut their losses on trying to force Charlotte into an awkward babyface role. Maybe that was the plan all along and they just took their time with it, but maybe they realised it was sucking wind in a hurry. Tiffany didn't come across as a spoiled little brat here either - she put her case forward without relying on stuck up tropes or soundbites other than her usual "Tiffy Time" stuff at the end.
This was overwhelmingly positive. Nothing felt forced. Both women played their respective roles to a tee, and Stratton was the one who got the final word...for now.
