6 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Jan 24)
3. Throwing Out The Women's Tag
Hands up who was excited about seeing 'Fire & Desire' match up with Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross?
There might be a few hands, but surely not many. That women's tag-team match was about as inessential a tag as the show could've had, and it's a good thing it didn't actually get going. There isn't much to the "feud" between both squads (Otis and Mandy Rose are all anyone cares about here), and it could've played before silence.
Plus, doing the job wouldn't have done anyone any good anyway, and WWE had the perfect out with Lacey Evans already chasing Bayley though the arena. That allowed them to blend both issues together and give everyone a mini-preview of what the female Rumble match might look like.
No arguments here. This was simple, solid booking, and a nifty way to mix up different rivalries within the women's division. Seeing all six women throwing bombs and working a pull-apart was way more fun than a five-minute tag match would've been.
