6 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Collision: Holiday Bash (Dec 23 - Results & Review)

3. Daniel Garcia Isn’t Pointless!

Tony Khan almost certainly realised early on in the Continental Classic that some matches would be harder to sell than others. That's especially true for those with less stakes than Collision's opener between Claudio and Bryan, for example. Somewhat remarkably, Daniel Garcia and Brody King succeeded in spite of that challenge.

The match was a lengthy squash, for the most part, but it did let Garcia show some spirit by rallying back for the surprise win. Collision's live crowd wanted that bad (one lady opposite the hard cam was particularly into Danny), and AEW didn't disappoint them. It was a story within a story.

Garcia had no chance of advancing in the tourney, but people wanted him to win anyway so he didn't finish pointless. The segment served three purposes: Daniel got some fire, Brody was eliminated from the CC, and their match paved the way for FTR to challenge House Of Black at Worlds End.

Slick TV all-round.
