6 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (29 Jan)

1. Commentary Third Wheeling

Nigel McGuinness is an informative and authoritative voice when it comes to explaining why submission holds hurt or why wrestlers are doing certain things. Unfortunately, the Brit is also lost in the shuffle when it comes to working as part of a three-person announce team. That was evident on this week's NXT.

He struggled to get a word in at times, and didn't seem to have a defined role behind the desk; Mauro Ranallo is the play-by-play man who gets over-excited, and Beth Phoenix gives great insight into the angles that are happening. On top of that, Beth is starting to overtake McGuinness as the veteran wrestler who explains the machinations of matches.

This was a wobble for Nige.

McGuinness came across as a third wheel at times. When he wasn't fighting to finish his sentences, he was getting links wrong (Keth Lee was appearing this week, not next week), and generally fighting the tide to stay involved. He'd be much better in a two-man team.
