6 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (29 Jan)

Ups...

6. Beth Phoenix Acknowledging Raw

WWE

There was a commentary plus.

Right at the start of the broadcast, Mauro noted that the past week had been "an emotional rollercoaster" for Beth Phoenix and family. After sterling showings in both Royal Rumble matches, she and her husband Edge suffered the pain of Randy Orton's deceit on Raw. The fact NXT acknowledged that was brilliant.

Phoenix said Orton had ruined a huge moment for her hubby, then said that Edge advised her to keep on keeping on and show up to work, so that's what she did. As Beth trembled through the emotion of her speech, both Ranallo and Nigel McGuinness offered support like good colleagues would.

This didn't take up much time and didn't dominate NXT's product with goings-on from other brands. However, it was wise to address such a major event, give Beth a platform to show off her promo skills and put over her professionalism in 30 short seconds.
