6 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Sept 11)

Ups...

6. This Mad C*nt

Jeff Hardy

God bless Jeff Hardy's steadfast commitment to being the weirdest guy in WWE, because his show-opening promo was something else.

Listening to the oddball ramblings of this absolute loon was particularly jolting as it came on the back of a respectful 9/11 tribute. Out came Jeff, babbling all kinds of nonsense about cleansing and demons, breaking into a stirring rendition of the Ivor Novello-worthy "Obsolete," then signing off with a wonderfully nonchalant "I'm going to Hell, enjoy the show!"

Letting Hardy tap into his inner weirdness was a wise decision. He isn't as full-on as he was during the Brother Nero days, but it's a welcome break from the vanilla character he was playing prior to last year's injury. Besides, the guy's still over as hell, particularly with younger generations. He has a place on SmackDown for as long as his battered body allows him.
