6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE NXT UK (17 June)
4. Out Of Luck
Kenny Williams vs. Danny Jones was just about good. It continued the trend of NXT UK’s squash matches being more competitive as opposed to a meaningless one-minute bout, and, in a way, it makes perfect sense. Should Danny Jones be officially signed, he’ll come in looking already decent.
While far from the most exciting bout, Jones showed some promise here, executing an array of strong strikes on ‘The Lucky Yin’. A stiff enzuigiri and Lariat could have easily gotten a win for the Welshman, with Williams offering nothing more than a few rest holds throughout the contest. Bouncing Jones’ neck off the ropes led, ultimately, to the Bad Luck headlock driver for Kenny to seal Danny’s fate.
This was fine. Of course Kenny Williams was going to win; he’s freshly-heel and still has a ton of potential to show in the role. A pre-match promo where he talked about living as a scumbag didn’t quite hit the note, however, he amended his mistakes in the ring. He wrestled as a cocky d*ck because he is one now. All Kenny needs to achieve going forward is making these short contests a tad more exciting.
