6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE NXT UK (24 June)
1. Banger Alert
That the first move in Joe Coffey vs. Rampage Brown vs. Ilja Dragunov was Ilja laying into Coffey with a chest headbutt set the right atmosphere for the main event immediately. This was just three guys having a scrap in your local rough pub if that pub had a wrestling ring in it. No fancy Destroyers here, just right hooks and boots to the jaw.
That's all this ever needed to be, anyway. The little intricacies throughout merely added another layer each time. Rampage literally charging full-force into Joe so that he couldn't get the pin on Ilja off a discus Lariat. Ilja putting himself in harm's way by flying head-first into Joe with a headbutt so that he wouldn't get all the force on another discus Lariat.
Everything worked here.
The end saw Coffey laid out with a Doctor Bomb, leaving Ilja to evade a Doctor Bomb off his own, connect with a super Torpedo Moscow on Rampage, and secure his spot as WALTER's next challenger. 'The Ring General' choked out Dragunov to end the episode.
This is going to be an epic if October was anything to go by. Ilja has been booked exceptionally well since then in terms of him becoming a tad deranged, and is surely dethroning WALTER when the time calls for it. Just as it was always meant to be.
