6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (5 June - Review)
1. Debuting With An L
There’s no rule that says a debuting superstar has to win their first match on the main roster to be considered a success. Hell, John Cena made a pretty nice career for himself after losing to Kurt Angle.
But when you have an admittedly thin tag division, maybe a team making their bow that are the longest-reigning NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions should win their debut match, not lose a semi-competitive bout against the reigning WWE women’s tag champs.
Sure, Kayden Carter & Katana Chance had a good showing – they even hit their After Party finisher on Ronda Rousey, who had to be saved by Shayna Baszler – but they were clearly the undersized underdogs here, and they lost to the tag champs on night one.
Now, if WWE is able to prove themselves to tell an actual story, the journey here is for KC-Squared to win a series of tag matches during the next couple months, building themselves back up to challenge Rousey & Baszler for the tag titles at a PLE, and possibly even shock the world, but at least become serious threats.
But past is prologue, and WWE more likely will just treat this as a means to introduce us to the new underdog babyfaces, and we won’t see any kind of journey, just a series of matches, some of which they’ll win, some they’ll lose. Worse, this came on the same night as a really decent video package introducing them, which was going to get an “up” here.
