6 Ups & 4 Downs For WWE Raw (13 Oct - Results & Review)
1. A Shocking Conclusion
Regardless of how anyone feels about the decision to implode The Vision on Monday night, give WWE some serious credit: they took a product that was largely floundering and a stable that at best had good potential and turned it into the topic of conversation with one bold move.
Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed’s attack on Seth Rollins to close out Raw will undoubtedly dominate the chatter in the wrestling world, which, aside from AJ Lee’s return, hadn’t happened too much in recent months. It piqued interest in “what happens next” and raised questions about the future of the World Heavyweight Championship. That should mean more eyeballs on the product.
Assuming Rollins is on the shelf for any amount of time, this also means WWE is giving the ball to Breakker, another bold move from a company that hasn’t taken many bold swings like this when it comes to their big titles (Jey Uso was a notable exception, but he had immense popularity on his side).
Perhaps most notably, the surprise attack gave an “anything can happen” vibe to a Raw main event scene that was – to put it kindly – extraordinarily stale and bland. The endings of Raw for the past several months have felt like an obligation: mediocre matches involving the same small group of wrestlers that carry no real weight on the direction of the product.
Raw needed some kind of signature ending to reassure viewers that the show can still shock them and leave them guessing, rather than just tuning out for the final 25 minutes while they watch a match that ends in another Vision beatdown.
This doesn’t mean every episode should end with a major blowup, but give fans a serious reason to want to turn in the following week. This nailed that sentiment. Whether WWE makes it worth fans’ while next week, is a question for next Monday night.
