6 Ups & 4 Downs For WWE Raw (22 Sept - Results & Review)

3. El Grande Mistakeo

Love or hate the El Grande Americano character and story, most can agree that the initial incarnation had some ethnic overtones that didn’t sit well, especially in today’s climate. Thankfully, that largely had dissipated in recent months, and the masked wrestler was played more for “laughs” than anything else.

The multiple Americanos story is another thing, however. The video on Monday night fell back on some of the same tropes and AI-generated crap that the original Americano shtick used. Beyond that, it feels like this story has been going on for eons. Even the multiple Americanos angle was a thing for a few weeks, then disappeared, and now has resumed.

El Grande himself vacillates between being buddies with Dominik Mysterio, helping him at every turn to retain (or win) titles, and then battling Dragon Lee (and now AJ Styles).

Does anyone actually really care about this angle? Is the “reveal” or comeuppance going to justify the months of TV time dedicated to this angle? Hell, will Dragon Lee actually get comeuppance on behalf of true luchadores?

At least the matches have a floor of “decent”…
