6 Ups & 4 Downs For WWE Raw (22 Sept - Results & Review)
Downs…
4. Worst Fears Recognized… For Now
Bayley’s Jekyll and Hyde (or Two-Face) routine is bound to have its champions and detractors, but one of the things that needed to be watched closely was anyone who fell into her orbit. How would they navigate this turbulent character?
Poor Lyra Valkyria – someone this column has repeatedly said is better served in the ring than in backstage segments – has been thrust into the role of “confused friend who gets the best and worst of the personality shifts.” Last week, she got chewed out by the Role Model. On Monday, the Hugger showed up and insisted everything was fine, asking her to join her at ringside for her match with Roxanne Perez.
Although initially skeptical, Lyra was in full rah-rah mode by the time they came out for the match, helping neutralize Raquel Rodriguez and then jumping for joy when Bayley pulled out the win. She ran in to hug Bayley… only for the Role Model to emerge and shove Valkyria down.
This is a week-by-week thing, but we’ve seen poor Lyra get done dirty by some odd booking before, and having her play “deer in the headlights” while Bayley channels Jim Carrey in “Me, Myself & Irene” is not exactly inspiring confidence. Lyra looked like a fool here, and if she continues next week being the confuzzled friend and target of angry Bayley’s wrath, this isn’t going to do her any favors.
Taking a pass on this for this week.
