6 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite Title Tuesday (Results & Review)
The AEW Vs. NXT Tuesday Night War was won by Tony Khan (with a HUGE Bryan Danielson assist).
Here's the thing about the so-called Tuesday Night War: it really doesn't matter. John Cena's presence on NXT all but guaranteed a WWE win. Everybody knows what WWE is doing and who cares anymore, really. It's funny, and AEW is no longer facing an existential crisis; just a few days of humiliation.
It's not as if the young up-and-comer John Cena needs to go to developmental. Then again, did you see his worked punches on SmackDown last week?
Next week will return to normal. And, if the discourse bothers you, it's best to avoid Twitter. Tribalism is childish at the best of times, but you will see two things when the ratings drop: the AEW fans will scream "It doesn't count, WWE booked Cena!" while the NXT fans will shout "Last goal wins, AEW couldn't beat developmental!"
It's a kid's football game out there. Ignore it.
The byproduct of a billionaire pissing content was some Dynamite card on paper. Bryan Danielson Vs. Swerve Strickland was the most promising match on a loaded card. Swerve had just won a major match on pay-per-view, but Danielson, as a face, was a more logical choice to gun for Christian Cage's TNT title. The match was guaranteed to be very, very good at an absolute minimum, and this return to all-or-nothing drama, a key selling point of AEW's original, bold mission statement, was more than welcome.
Did it live up to expectations?
