6 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (13 May)

1. Spot Money Phantasmo

What a f*cking banger this was.

Every segment of the X Division scramble match was a genuine delight. From Ace Austin’s innovation to avoid literally any bit of offence to Acey Romero chucking fools around to El Phantasmo’s top-rope Death Valley Driver into a mosh pit of wrestlers at ringside, there wasn’t a moment to rest. That it all added together rather than being a complete mess of spot after spot was low-key tremendous.

What made this a truly great bout, though, is that it didn’t make use of every multi-person match trope. There wasn’t a spot where everything came in and hit their finishers before the last guy won. There were periods where it was only two guys in the ring while everyone else recuperated, but this is a trope needed in such a match.

Petey Williams looked solid throughout, making use of Brian Cage’s GMSI (get my sh*t in) motto; the guy made sure he had shown off every bit of his usual offence before taking the fall from Phantasmo. That’s called playing it smart.

An El Phantasmo win was always on the cards, which isn’t actually a bad thing as Josh Alexander vs. Phantasmo is a money match anywhere you go. So long as they get time, Under Siege will be yet another X Division banger.
