6 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (5 August)

4. First Time Lucky

Melina will challenge Deonna Purrazzo for the Knockouts Championship at the NWA's Empowerrr pay-per-view on 28 August.

This was confirmed by Mickie James on last night's show, with Empowerrr's Executive Producer interrupting Deonna and Matthew Rehwoldt's official coronation as Homecoming King and Queen. 'The Virtuosa' demanded to know who her challenger will be, seeing as she's already seen off the unknown (see: Thunder Rosa at Slammiversary). That's when Melina entered, looking like it's still 2010. She still looks like herself. That was crucial for this moment.

The match was made official with a contract signing, with Melina claiming that she'll lift the Knockouts Championship in her first opportunity at the strap, akin to what 'The Virtuosa' achieved last year. There's fire to the match, which is needed; the audience seemed invested, judging by their reaction to Melina's entrance and brief promo.

Aside from Rehwoldt standing awkwardly next to Deonna, their partnership could work if given time. IMPACT should absolutely keep them together for a while, at least. The former Aiden English needs something like this to get his foot in at IMPACT Wrestling. Through association with Deonna Purrazzo, he'll be safe.
