The conventional wisdom heading into Evolution on Sunday night was that WWE had done a subpar job building the show, throwing together matches without any real stories for some and just filling the card so the company could counter-program against AEW All In this past weekend.

The thing is, giving the women their own PLE for the first time in nearly seven years was a guaranteed way to fire them up and get them to overdeliver regardless of the poor build.

Evolution will likely not be a top-five show at the end of the year, but it did produce a couple of excellent matches, a few memorable moments, and an overall quality that exceeded the men’s performance at Saturday Night’s Main Event the prior evening.

As expected, the Women’s World Championship and Women’s Intercontinental Championship matches stole the show, with a couple of other matches also delivering on the night.

While not a great show, Evolution was breezy enough and much more satisfying than Saturday Night’s Main Event. It, of course, paled in comparison to the competitor’s offering, but it would be unfair to hold that against Evolution. With that in mind, it’s easy enough to give an overall thumbs-up to this show, though it had some serious shortcomings.

Let’s get to it…
