2. McIntyre Diversifies

Damian Priest Drew McIntyre
WWE

For months, Drew McIntyre has been on a collision course with CM Punk, despite the Second City Saint being on the shelf since the Royal Rumble.

While the two have stepped up their war of words, there’s been no physicality, and no indication that they’ll be in the ring mixing it up anytime in the immediate future. That presents a problem, as there’s only so many ways to avoid having hated rivals getting physical, whether a doctor has cleared them or not.

Monday night, McIntyre found a new target for his ire. Opening the show, Drew continued to last out at Punk, but he soon switched up to attack Damian Priest for stealing his World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 40. This drew out Priest, who continued his gradual drift toward becoming a face by letting McIntyre continue his heel rant before calmly telling him to blame himself, and then simply give Drew the title match he wanted because he’s a fighting champion.

McIntyre having a focus on the title gets him at least partially away from Punk, which also means he probably won’t see CM coming when he returns. Plus, it allows Priest to appear more like the hero without having to drastically change anything because Drew is universally accepted as the villain.
