Seth Rollins seemed to be on the verge of advancing in the King of the Ring tournament to set up a possible SummerSlam collision with Roman Reigns, but things took a turn during Raw’s main event Monday night.

The four-way between Rollins, Ricky Saints, Talla Tonga, and Je’Von Evans was chugging along pretty well, with Tonga looking like a big, dominant, imposing heel, and everyone else doing everything in their power to put him down (including Saints after an ill-fated attempt to team up with him).

Evans was his usual dynamic self, but one moment stood out: he overshot when trying to scale the ropes to attack Saints and tumbled to the floor, but he quickly recovered, stunned Ricky with a kick, and climbed the ropes again to hit a Spanish Fly. Although it was a botch, he recovered so quickly that it could be passed off as an overzealous young wrestler trying to do too much and having to regroup.

Just as it looked like Rollins was closing out the match, Austin Theory pulled the referee out of the ring, and Bron Breakker speared Seth. Saints tried to capitalize, but Je’Von nailed an OG Cutter for the shock win.

As much as more Rollins/The Vision is a recipe for changing the channel, seeing Evans advance to the semifinals is a welcome sight. Je’Von gets to have a bit of a Cinderella story heading further into the tournament, and it shakes things up a bit from the predictable Rollins/Jey Uso semifinal most had to be envisioning earlier in the night.
